The main route to become a Car Mechanic is through an Appenticeship. Many people train through Foundation or Advanced Modern Apprenticeships. Most apprentices enter between the ages of 16 and 18, but there is no age limit.
Car Mechanic Training
Many garages, large organisations and component suppliers provide
in-house training. Additionally, manufacturers often offer apprenticeships
run jointly with local employers.
- NVQs/SVQs in Vehicle Fitting Levels 1 and 2, and Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Levels 2 and 3 are available to trainees.
A BTEC National Diploma and National Certificate in Motor Vehicle Studies are available. This course is either full time, or part time with a day or block release whilst working. Progression to HND/HNC study is possible.
