Local government revenues and benefits officers collect the council's income, or administer housing and council tax benefits. Their duties include:

Revenues/benefits officers are based in council offices and normally work a 37-hour week from Monday to Friday.
They start on around £10,800 a year, and salaries can be £15,000 or more in supervisory roles.
To start work, entrants usually need five GCSEs/S grades (A-C/1-3), including maths and English, and sometimes one A level/H grade. To be properly qualified, they need to study for IRRV qualifications at work.
There is no upper age limit to start work as a local revenues/benefits officer. Mature entrants are sometimes preferred because of the sensitive nature of the work.
Full training is given but entrants who have accountancy or other professional qualifications may be given exemption from some professional examinations.
There are employment opportunities throughout the UK and promotion prospects are good.
