Leisure centre assistants carry out a range of tasks to help and supervise people using leisure centre facilities. Their job includes:
Leisure centre assistants normally work a 40 hour week, including evenings, weekends, late nights and shift work. The work may be indoors in a controlled, air-conditioned environment, or outside in all weathers.
New assistants earn about £9,000 a year. With experience, they earn up to £14,000 or more.

Assistants can work in leisure centres in most towns and cities throughout the country.
Employers normally expect GCSEs/S grades. An accredited coaching or pool lifesaving qualification, or a GNVQ/GSVQ/AVCE/BTEC/Access award in a leisure-related subject, will improve job prospects. A first aid qualification would also be useful. Leisure centre assistants may be able to study for NVQs/SVQs and professional awards. Apprenticeships and Advanced Apprenticeships may be available.
Promotion is possible to a supervisory or management role, and will depend on experience and qualifications.
