Gas distribution workers help to distribute gas to more than 20 million buildings throughout the country.
They are responsible for:

Work is available in all parts of the country, particularly in towns and industrial areas. National Grid Transco is the major employer. It then sub-contracts work to other companies.
Although there are no specific qualifications, employers will look for GCSEs/S grades in maths, science, English and a practical or technical subject.
People usually start work as trainees. Some basic engineering or building experience would be an advantage.
Distribution workers can progress to technical work by studying engineering on a higher-level NVQ/SVQ course.
